Itinerary for The Grand Tour of Switzerland – Western Route

Day 1: Arrive in Switzerland

Arrive in Switzerland at your preferred time. Embedded between nearby Alpine peaks and the hilly terrain of the Jura, the French‐speaking city of Geneva lies. With its humanitarian tradition and cosmopolitan flair, the European seat of the UNO and headquarters of the Red Cross is known as the ‘capital of peace’ but there’s more than just politics and policy here, the Old Town is simply charming and there’s always a great spot for wine and cheese!

Overnight in Geneva.

Day 2: Geneva > Gstaad

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before beginning your journey to Gstaad. Sitting in the Bernese Oberland, Gstaad attracts a charming mix of visitors: while the chalet village welcomes famous guests, the smaller neighboring villages offer attractive options for families with children. In recent years, the center of Gstaad has developed into the most popular and shortest “shopping mile” in Switzerland.

Overnight in Gstaad.

Day 3: Gstaad > Lucerne

Fuel up at breakfast in your hotel before beginning today’s drive. On your way to Lucerne, consider a stop at the adventure capital of Switzerland – Interlaken, or perhaps a boat ride on Lake Thun. Then, continue toward the stunning city of Lucerne, the gateway to central Switzerland. Bordering Lake Lucerne, the city is embedded within an impressive mountainous panorama. Thanks to its attractions, its souvenir and watch shops, the beautiful lakeside setting and the nearby excursion mountains of the Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn, the town is a must-see destination in Switzerland.

Day 4: Lucerne > Zermatt

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before beginning your journey to the beautiful town of Zermatt which lies at the foot of the Matterhorn – one of the most iconic mountains in the world. The charming town center is a car‐free zone, preserving its original character and offers nearly unlimited possibilities for excursions and general enjoyment. But, the top highlight has to be a ride on the Gornergrat Railway offering spectacular views of the Matterhorn and surrounding mountains. To get in and out of the city you’ll use the Park&Rail service between Täsch and Zermatt.

Overnight in Zermatt.

Day 5: Zermatt > Montreux

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel this morning before heading out to explore this charming town. A trip up the exhilarating open‐air Gornergrat railway is not to be missed as it offers some of the best views of the Matterhorn and surrounding mountains. Back in Täsch your route begins with a stunning drive up through the Valais, heading through Sierre, Sion, Martigny and Aigle. Continue along the shores of Lake Geneva to your home for the night in Montreux. The town of Montreux is surrounded by vineyards bordering the breathtaking snow‐covered Alps. If you’re traveling in June or July be sure to catch the Montreux Jazz Festival!
